Donkey Kong Country Returns HD has been added to the Nintendo Switch eShop, revealing the game’s price tag of $60. While there are often concerns from fans regarding potential price increases following The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launching with a price tag of $70 last year, we can all rest easy knowing that premium price tags from the company remains selective for a limited number of releases.
Despite this, some fans have been left confused at Nintendo’s pricing strategy for remakes of older games and have taken to websites such as Reddit and other social media platforms to voice their feedback. The recently released Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD similarly had a launch price of $60 with the main highlights to the remaster being updated graphics rather than additional gameplay. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD will also be focused on updating graphics and offering players a chance to experience the additional content from the 3DS version, other recent remakes such as Metroid Prime Remastered that released just last year in 2023 were noted for only having a $40 launch price instead. Like these games, Metroid Prime Remastered mostly contained updated graphics, music, controls, and other minor additions as its main selling point.
For now, it remains unknown what factors the company uses to determine the price of any future remakes.
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD will be releasing next year on January 16th, 2025, for the Nintendo Switch. You can find the game on the Nintendo eShop by clicking here.
