Nintendo Announced End to Wii U Repair Services in Japan

Nintendo has officially announced an end to their Wii U and console peripherals repair service for Japan due to running out of parts for the console. This announcement comes just over a year later when the company warned customers that due to a limited number of parts being available, their repair service for damaged consoles would end once the current stock was exhausted.

While there was no estimate from Nintendo when they expected this to occur, as of July 3, 2024, there are no longer parts available for the company to repair consoles.

It should be noted that checking the support website for regions such as America similarly presents a notice to users that, “Nintendo no longer offers factory repairs for the Wii U console, the Wii U GamePad, or Wii U accessories.” though this does not appear to be a recent edit to the website.

This news follows a recent shareholders meeting announcement from Nintendo that the company was able to resolve supply chain parts issue for the Nintendo Switch and an unannounced Switch successor console. While its expected that support for the Switch will continue to be available for many years to come, even after a new console is released, given the Wii U’s age and decisions from the company, such as shutting down the eShop for the Wii U and 3DS last year, it seems that the the console is being fully shelved and put behind Nintendo going forward.

Anyone with a damaged or broken console will now need to resort to third-party services or sellers to make repairs or obtain a new device.
