No Nintendo? No problem.
Despite Nintendo being absent from the list of attendees for the Summer Game Fest this year, that hasn’t stopped plenty of other companies and studios making some big announcements for upcoming titles that fans can expect to find available on the Nintendo Switch. While we can expect to see plenty of upcoming and promising looking games such as Prisma and Tenjutsu, we also received several major announcements that can be expected in the future.
Sonic X Shadow
This new and improved version of Sonic Generations for the 3DS makes its return on October 25th. Not only will players be able to experience a modernized version of the original game, but this version will also include an entirely new story campaign focused on Shadow the Hedgehog. Players can currently pre-order a copy of the game for some of the available platforms at the official website for $50, though an official store page for the switch will likely come in the future.
Civilization VII
The next addition for the Civilization series has finally been announced as part of the Summer Game Fest. Fans of the series had suspected that a new game could be on the horizon as Civilization VII had already long since finished its own DLC releases and other major updates. While an official trailer has been released, confirming the game’s existence and development, little information regarding the gameplay, pricing, or a specific release date have been included. For now, we’ll need to wait until August for more gameplay information, with a release date expected for some time in 2025.
LEGO Horizon Adventures
In a somewhat unexpected surprise, a Horizon series game is not only coming to the Nintendo Switch, but is expected to release on the same day for other platforms as well. Though the game isn’t expected to closely follow the story of the official Horizon game series, this light hearted game is expected to blend all of the extreme adventures of a Horizon game and the casual fun of a Lego game together for an exciting experience. With a scheduled release date for the holidays this year, we’ll need to wait until later for the official pricing.
While we can likely expect a future Nintendo Direct this summer, the Summer Game Fest has still managed to give fans of the platform a new wave of upcoming titles that we can all look forward to until then.
