In a surprise announcement from Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto has made an official announcement from the company on X (Formerly known as Twitter), ahead of the upcoming Nintendo Direct. In this post, he states that the second Super Mario Bros movie will be set to release in Japan on April 24, 2026.
This date would have the movie releasing in Japan just 3 weeks after the first release date that is scheduled for the United States on April 3rd, 2026. While the original movie released in many theatres around the world, no information has been shared regarding what other countries the movie may be available in.
It’s been just over a year since the first Super Mario Bros movie released on theatres around the world. Despite mixed reviews from critics on many websites, the movie managed to be a massive financial success for Nintendo, bringing in over 1.3 billion dollars worldwide during its time in theatres. Capitalizing on the film’s success, the company announced on MAR10 Day (March 10th) of this year that a second movie was already in the works, with a scheduled release date for 2026.
Little information has been shared by the company about the movie beyond its existence, and guessing based on how far off the release date it, it will likely be some time before we receive a trailer or any in-depth information about the story or featured characters. What we do know however is that Nintendo has continued to partner with Illumination for producing another fun movie adventure featuring the Mario Brothers franchise.
We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for any future updates.
